The Interview
This NIPA feature brings together the artist’s reflections, selected works, and visual material in a long-form interview format.
1️⃣ Can you tell us a little about yourself and how your journey into photography began?
My name is Mohamed Noufal, born in a small village in Kerala, India. My journey began in a modest local studio, where I worked as an assistant to support my family. With no formal education in photography, I learned through observation, curiosity, and determination. In 2012, I moved to the UAE, and that decision transformed my life. Step by step, photography evolved from a job into my passion, my identity, and my purpose.
3️⃣ How would you describe your photographic style, and how has it evolved?
My style blends fine-art minimalism with cinematic storytelling. In the beginning, I focused on technical perfection, but over time my work became more emotional, poetic, and intentional—aiming not only to show a scene, but to make the viewer feel something deeper.
4️⃣ Who or what has had the biggest influence on your artistic vision?
My greatest influence has been my own journey—from humble beginnings in India to a creative life in the UAE. The landscapes, cultures, and people I encountered shaped my vision and pushed me to dream beyond what I once believed possible.
5️⃣ What is your relationship with your camera and equipment?
My camera feels like an extension of my heart and mind. Equipment plays a role, but vision, patience, and emotion matter far more. The camera gives me a voice when words are not enough. 🔹 ABOUT THE WINNING IMAGE – TRAVEL CATEGORY 🏆 Honorable Mention – Travel Category Title: Whispers of the Dunes Description: Camel walking under the shadow in desert dunes

6️⃣ What’s the story behind this photograph?
Captured during a moment of stillness in the desert, I watched a man and his camel moving gently across the dunes. It felt like a silent conversation between humans, nature, and time. The vast landscape and small figures symbolized solitude, resilience, and a timeless journey.
7️⃣ What was the most important decision you made for this image?
I chose to embrace scale and minimalism, placing the subjects small within the immense dunes. This transformed the image from a simple travel scene into a metaphor about the human journey within nature’s greatness.
9️⃣ What do you hope people feel when they see this photo?
I hope they feel calmness and depth—an invitation to slow down and listen to the quiet poetry of the desert. ✅ Why Travel Category?Because it captures culture, landscape, movement, and the emotional spirit of place. 🔹 ABOUT THE WINNING IMAGE – MOBILE CATEGORY 🏆 Honorable Mention – Mobile Category Title: Beneath the Surface Description: Hippopotamus under the water

This image was captured during a quiet underwater moment, revealing a gentle side of a powerful animal. It shows not just what we see above the surface, but the calm, hidden world beneath it.

The natural green tones and centered composition created a surreal calmness. The closed eyes added softness—where strength meets peace.
