The Beauty of Decay

Viet Van TranVietnam

HONORABLE MENTION

People / Portrait

Entry type: Series
Series: 7 photographs

These photographs record the final year of my mother's life before she passed away at 92, completing my decade-long project, Mom, My Hero, begun in 2016. A respected literary scholar, she endured heart disease, osteoporosis, and breast cancer with remarkable resilience. Rather than following a linear narrative, the series weaves together moments of decline, tenderness, and hope. She was never celebrated as a public hero, only my hero. Through these images, I preserve quiet beauty of impermanence
