The Fossil Era

2026 NIPA 2026

The Fossil Era

Marcel van BeekGermany

HONORABLE MENTION

Environmental

Entry type: Series
Series: 7 photographs

The Fossil Era frames the present as a volatile interlude in Earth’s deep chronology. Beginning with the fern as ancient carbon blueprint and ending with Northern Gannets as fragile sentinels of resilience, the series pivots around coal, combustion, fire and rising waters. Industrial machinery appears as a temporary intrusion between the biological origins of fossil energy and the urgent necessity of a living future.
