Taken in the final hours of my mother’s life, this image concludes my long-term project, “My Mother, My Hero” (2016–2026). For ten years, I photographed her through illness, from within our shared life. She raised our family in years shaped by war, while working as a literary critic. What remains is her gaze, quiet, unwavering, and still present. A life gathers here, at the point where everything else falls away.
