The Interview

This NIPA feature brings together the artist’s reflections, selected works, and visual material in a long-form interview format.

01

Can you tell us a little about yourself and how your journey into photography began?

I love talking about photography! Mine's a pretty casual story, really. I got into photography through hobby because I like taking photos of people and portrait because it shows the real emotions. The more I shot, the more I realized how much I loved the process of capturing a moment, playing with light, composition, etc. Next thing I knew, I was hooked! Been at it ever since.

02

What truly moves and inspires you as an artist?

As an artist, I'm all about capturing the essence of a moment or make the moments. What's really getting me fired up is the human experience, the emotions, and the connections. That's what I try to convey through my lens. For me, it's about telling stories and sharing perspectives, I'm inspired by the beauty in the everyday, the quirky, the unusual, and the unexplored.

03

How would you describe your photographic style, and how has it evolved over time?

For portrait and fine art photography, I'd say my style is creative expression without limit. I aim to capture the essence of my subjects in a way that feels authentic. Also think clean compositions, soft natural light, and a focus on textures and emotions. Over time, my style has evolved to more experimentation and storytelling elements. I've played with lighting techniques, used more intentional composition, and explored different moods and atmospheres. I always looking to push boundaries and see where the art takes me.

04

Who or what has had the biggest influence on your artistic vision?

For portrait and fine art photography, I'd say the biggest influences on my artistic vision are the works of Annie Leibovitz, Yousuf Karsh and Paul Strand. Their mastery of composition, lighting, and storytelling has been a huge inspiration. I love how they capture the essence of their subjects and create images that are both timeless and thought-provoking. I've also been influenced by various art movements like Surrealism and Impressionism, which has led me to experiment with more creative and interpretive approaches in my fine art work. But ultimately, it's the people and stories I've encountered that have had the most significant impact on my artistic vision. They're what drive me to create images that are authentic and meaningful.

05

What is your relationship with your camera and equipment?

My camera's like an extension of myself. I treat it with care, always making sure it's ready for the next shot.

09

What does photography mean to you on a personal level?

Photography's like a language for me. It's how I express myself, capture moments, and tell stories. When I'm shooting, I'm totally in the zone, observing life unfold, and trying to bottle it up. It's also about connection – with people, places, and the world. I love how photography lets me see things from different angles, explore new vibes, and meet folks I might not've met otherwise.

10

What message or idea do you want your work to communicate to the world?

Through my work, I'd like to spark a sense of wonder and curiosity about the world. I want people to see the beauty in everyday moments, to appreciate the little things, and to find inspiration in the stories of others. Ultimately, I hope my work communicates that every person's story is unique and worth sharing, and that every moment in life is precious and worth capturing.
